Our Ethos
At TimeNorfolk, we recognise that we work in a sensitive area. We want to be clear about how we operate, the values we hold and the relationship between our Christian faith and the services we offer.
Background
The organisation was set up originally to offer a Christian response to increasing numbers of women undergoing termination of pregnancy. We wanted to offer a response that had the needs of the woman at its heart rather than a pro-life or pro-choice agenda.
We would like to explain what we mean by a Christian response, how this informs the service we offer to clients and how we work with other agencies.
Support offered to Clients
Our support is sensitive, non-directive and impartial. Any information we give to clients is also impartial and accurate.
We respect our clients' right to confidentiality.
We seek to help our clients understand their own circumstances, thoughts, feelings and values. We encourage our clients to engage with their emotional, phvsical, intellectual and spiritual selves to whatever extent they wish.
We recognise that partners can be deeply affected by issues surrounding pregnancy choices, pregnancy loss, termination and infertilitv and we do not consider these to be exclusivelv "women's issues" We therefore offer confidential support to anyone, regardless of their gender identitv or sexualitv, either together or separately.
Christian Principles
-
We recognise that all people are valuable, worthy of respect and deserving of unconditional love.
-
We do not make value judgments about clients' choices, behaviour or circumstances
-
We use a holistic approach recognising intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual aspects to our lives and those of our clients.
-
Believing that God has given every person free will to make their own decisions, we recognise that it is the client's responsibility and right to decide whether or not to continue with their pregnancy. It is our responsibility to support them to make their own decision, free from pressure or persuasion, with as much information as they want and in a respectful and loving environment.
-
We believe that the human embryo or foetus is worthy of respect and dignity from the point of conception and that pregnancy loss clients have the right to grieve for their loss.
-
We expect that many people using our services will do so without knowing about, or sharing, our Christian ethos; but we hope they will feel love, valued and respected
Working with health professionals and other agencies
We value the essential role of medical professionals and others providina care services in this field, working with individuals and organisations of all faiths and none. We seek to build and maintain good working relationships with all health professionals, agencies and other support groups in order to provide an effective network of specialist help for the increasinalv complex needs of our clients.
We are entirely independent from termination providers, termination campaigns and pro-life organisations.
